This 3,600 sf house plus guest house occupies the ridge of a 32 acre wooded site overlooking
On approach, the scale of the low lying metal roof is welcoming and protective. Arrival at the front door engages the main axis of the house leading to the great-room and it’s mountain view. Toward the view and sun the house becomes more open with roofs upturned.
The great-room is designed to maximize and control the sun through external shading devices and to encourage natural ventilation. The fireplace nook provides an intimate “cave-like” space, while multiple doors connect directly with the garden.
“Green” building practices were a primary concern not only in the siting, orientation and configuration of the buildings but also in the materials and systems employed. The peeled poles and cedar siding were milled from trees cut down on the site to accommodate the house.
